When you're investing in your dream van, Yama's certified standards mean it's built right - not just pretty.

In an industry where it's all too easy to play in the grey, we've chosen a different route - one paved with paperwork, inspections, and more than a few rounds of red tape. At Yama Vans, we've always held ourselves to a higher standard when it comes to quality, safety, and performance. Building vans for adventure enthusiasts like you isn't just our job - it's a responsibility we take seriously.

That's why we've put in the work to become: Western Canada's only certified Class B RV Manufacturer, holding the National Safety Mark from Transport Canada; a certified Mercedes-Benz Expert Upfitter; and a registered Permit to Practice holder with APEGA, Alberta's regulatory body for engineering. These recognitions go beyond what's expected of a Sprinter van conversion company; they mark our evolution into a fully-certified manufacturer.

These certifications require rigorous processes, detailed documentation, and external oversight - and that's exactly the kind of framework we believe in. Yes, these are stamps of approval; but they also serve as proof of the care, precision, and professionalism that go into every premium Sprinter van we build.

Transport Canada's National Safety Mark

While we love creating spaces where you can perfectly prop your morning coffee with a mountain view, none of that matters if the bones aren't built right. That's where the National Safety Mark (NSM) comes in. As Western Canada's only Certified Class B RV Manufacturer, we're proud to display this federal designation - a confirmation that every Yama Van is built to meet Canada's highest safety standards for safe van conversion practices.

What is the NSM?

Issued by Transport Canada, the NSM is a federally regulated identifier granted only to manufacturers who comply with the Motor Vehicle Safety Act and the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS).

It means we've demonstrated proper manufacturing protocols, maintain detailed documentation, and have systems in place to issue recalls, if ever necessary. Every Yama Van is legally recognized as a complete, road-certified vehicle, just like any vehicle you'd buy off a dealership lot. It's Transport Canada's way of saying "Yep, this van was built to code."

Why It Matters:
  • Confidence You Can Count On: Your van has been systematically checked against federal safety benchmarks, so sleep soundly knowing your basecamp on wheels isn't just a looker; it's been engineered and built to TC's safety specs.
  • Easier Registration and Resale: That little NSM logo streamlines the vehicle registration process, especially across provincial lines or international borders, and boosts resale value when you're ready for your next Yama Van or new adventure.
  • Insurance Simplification: Insurance providers recognize the NSM as proof that your vehicle meets national manufacturing standards, so you're less likely to deal with special inspections, classification headaches, or inflated premiums.
  • Quality That's Non-Negotiable: The NSM program keeps us on our toes by requiring detailed tracking and accountability, ensuring what's under the surface is built with the same care as the custom touches you'll show off to all your friends.

Mercedes-Benz Expert Upfitter

Yama Vans is proud to be Western Canada's only certified Mercedes-Benz Adventure Van Expert Upfitter. It's a testament to our relentless pursuit of perfection in every van we build and every client experience we deliver.

What is the Mercedes-Benz Expert Upfitter Program?

Think of it as the VIP section of van upfitting. This certification puts us in rare company, joining a select group of upfitters that Mercedes-Benz trusts to enhance their meticulously engineered vehicles. The program certifies manufacturers who meet Mercedes-Benz's strict requirements across multiple key areas: quality, engineering, technology, sales, and after-sales service.

To make the cut, our work had to demonstrate seamless integration with the vehicle's original systems and maintain factory warranty. We also have to uphold a client experience worthy of the Mercedes-Benz prestigious name.

Why It Matters:
  • Built to Work Together: We have access to proprietary technical information and direct engineering support from Mercedes-Benz, so every element of your upfit is precisely dialled in to work with the Sprinter chassis.
  • Certified Quality From Start to Finish: Mercedes-Benz has reviewed and approved our entire build process: from design and engineering to install and after-sales service.
  • Warranty That Works For You: With the Delayed Warranty Start, your factory warranty doesn't begin the moment your van leaves the dealership; instead, it starts when your completed Yama Van is delivered to you and officially hits the road. No lost coverage time when it's in our shop, just full coverage when it counts.

On top of that, we back every build with our own three-year/60,000 km (36,000 mi) Yama Vans warranty, designed to complement your Mercedes-Benz coverage and give you added confidence. And if anything comes up, our Client Experience Team is always just a call away.

APEGA Permit to Practice

We might be known for standout aesthetics and smart layouts, but beneath all that good-looking finish is real, regulated engineering, handled in-house. Yama Vans holds a Permit to Practice with APEGA, keeping us accountable to the highest technical and ethical standards in the industry.

What is APEGA?

APEGA is the provincial governing body for individuals and companies that practice engineering or geoscience in Alberta. Holding a Permit to Practice represents best-in-class commitments to safety and professionalism. It means that Yama Vans is authorized to carry out engineering work under the oversight of our in-house, licensed Professional Engineer, guided by a detailed Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP).

That plan ensures our engineering decisions are made ethically, skillfully, and in compliance with provincial legislation. It also includes built-in checks and balances at every stage of the build.

Why it Matters?
  • Licensed Oversight: All engineering decisions are made under the direction of a licensed Professional Engineer, backed by formal training, credentials, and real-world expertise.
  • Accountability and Transparency: Our Permit to Practice requires us to maintain a Professional Practice Management Plan, adhere to strict documentation protocols, and undergo regular audits by APEGA.
  • Compliance You Can Trust: APEGA's oversight guarantees that all engineering work is completed within a provincially recognized framework, providing assurance that your van has been built in accordance with formal engineering standards, not informal or improvised methods.
  • Built On More Than Good Intentions: Engineering is a self-regulated profession with legal obligations. Our Permit to Practice confirms that we meet, and maintain those obligations, upholding the integrity of our work and the safety of our clients.

Certifications may not be the flashiest part of your van's story, but they're the foundation of a truly trustworthy adventure vehicle. With a Yama Van, you're not just getting a beautiful, functional van. You're choosing a properly certified travel companion built to handle everything from mountain passes to government paperwork with equal confidence.
